A preliminary clinical trial of CBD to treat schizophrenia as effectively as current antipsychotic medications was concluded at University of California-Irvine.

Though it is not as potent as many antipsychotic medications currently on the market, CBD seems to have lessened side effects while also costing less. These side effects include social withdrawal and anxiety, among others. Researchers are still not sure though whether CBD mainly treats the said symptoms or simply causes fewer side effects.

Studies show that CBD seems to counteract the psychotropic effects of THC that has strong correlation with psychosis with long term use. But interestingly enough, CBD alongside THC seems to drastically lower “THC-induced-psychosis”.
